CSX has earned a spot on the 2022 “100 Best Corporate Citizens” list, which recognizes top environmental, social and governance (ESG) transparency and performance among companies on the Russell 1000 Index.

To compile the list, each company on the Russell 1000 Index—the 1,000 largest publicly traded firms in the U.S.—is ranked based on 155 ESG factors in eight pillars: climate change, employee relations, environment, finance, governance, human rights, stakeholders and society, and ESG performance. The annual analysis is performed by ISS ESG, a corporate governance and responsible investment solutions provider, using a methodology developed by 3BL Media, which has been managing the Best Corporate Citizens rankings since 2018. (According to 3BL Media, “corporate data and information is obtained from publicly available sources only, rather than questionnaires or company submissions. Companies have the option to verify data collected for the ranking at no cost. Data and information used in the 2022 edition of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens ranking is from March 19, 2021 to March 18, 2022.”)

Overall, CSX ranked 64th, tying with Ball Corporation. Owens Corning topped the rankings. PepsiCo, Apple, HP and Cisco rounded out the top five. Also on the list: Cummins (No. 177) and DuPont (No. 94).

In related developments, CSX earlier this month earned a 2022 Environmental Leadership Award from Toyota Logistics Services “for delivering innovative sustainability solutions.”
