CP to Serve New Richardson Grain Elevator

Richardson Pioneer Limited has begun construction on a nearly $50 million high-throughput grain elevator in Carmichael, Saskatchewan, to be served by Canadian Pacific.

Slated for completion by fall 2022, it will be situated near Richardson’s Swift Current and Maple Creek Richardson Pioneer facilities (to the east and west, respectively), according to the company. The grain elevator will include 46,000 metric tons of storage capacity with a loop track for loading 175 high cube railcars. The facility will also feature high-speed receiving and load out, and a high-capacity grain cleaning system.

Once the facility is built, Richardson will start work on a high-speed fertilizer blender with storage and a 10,000-square-foot AWSA- (Agrichemical Warehousing Standards Association-) certified warehouse. Both will be fully operational by fall 2023, the company reported.

“Richardson has maintained a significant presence and loyal customer base in the southwestern part of the province and will continue to seek opportunities for improving operational efficiencies,” Senior Vice President, Agribusiness Operations Tom Hamilton said. “With the addition of the new facility at Carmichael, we look to bridge our historical presence in the area with the realities of meeting our grower customers’ evolving business needs.”
