CN recognized by CDP for environmental leadership

CN’s achievement was announced in the CDP Canada 200 Climate Change Report 2013, which tracks how Canada’s largest Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX)-listed companies are acting in response to a changing climate.
At the suggestion of 722 investors representing US$87 trillion in assets, CN took part in CDP’s climate change program, designed to facilitate the management of greenhouse gas emissions and identify the risks and opportunities associated with climate change,” CN said. “For the fourth consecutive year, CN has earned a position in CDP’s Canada 200 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index. This annual index highlights the largest 200 companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (Canada 200) that have displayed a strong approach to the disclosure of information regarding climate change.”

“CN leads the North American rail industry in fuel efficiency, consuming, overall, approximately 15% less fuel per gross-ton-mile than the rail industry average. CN is working hard to improve the fuel efficiency of its trains and is engaging its employees, through its EcoConnexions program, as part of its comprehensive plan to reduce its carbon footprint. CN is also testing locomotives fueled by natural gas to explore the feasibility of the technology.”
