Norfolk Southern Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Cynthia “Cindy” Earhart is retiring after 34 years at the railroad, effective Nov. 1. Her replacement is Mark George, who comes to NS from United Technologies Corp.

George joins Norfolk Southern with more than 30 years of experience in financial management, strategy, and business development across multiple commercial business segments of United Technologies Corp., including as Vice President Finance and CFO for the past 11 years at Otis Elevator Company (Editor’s Note: He’s transitioning from vertical to horizontal transportation!) and, most recently, Carrier Corp.

Since joining UTC through its Otis Elevator subsidiary in 1989, George has served in positions of increasing responsibility in finance, planning and analysis, and treasury for several UTC entities in the U.S. and Asia. He holds a Bachelor of Science in finance from Connecticut State University and a Master of Business Administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
