BNSF’s Johnson succeeds CP’s McFarlane in U.S.

Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefRobert Johnson, who has spent 32 years with BNSF Railway and its predecessors, most recently as General Manager-Northwest Division, has been appointed Canadian Pacific Railway’s Vice President U.S. Operations. He replaces Senior Vice President U.S. Operations Doug McFarlane (pictured), who has announced his retirement after 37 years with CP in both Canada and the United States.
At BNSF, Johnson held successively more responsible roles in operations, transportation, engineering, and service excellence. As General Manager-Northwest Division, he oversaw day-to-day operations for that region.
“We welcome Robert to Canadian Pacific,” said CP President and Chief Operating Officer Keith Creel. “His depth of experience significantly adds to our operation’s bench strength to help continue CP’s ongoing drive for efficiency, optimizing assets, and improving service for our customers.”
McFarlane joined CP in 1976 and has held a number of positions within the company, including conductor and locomotive engineer. He later served in key executive roles in operations, transportation, marketing and sales, and labor relations, ultimately as SVP U.S. Operations.
