Banks elevated to MDDE President

Cathrin Banks

Federalsburg, Md.-based Class III Maryland and Delaware Railroad Company (MDDE) has promoted Cathrin S. Banks to President, effective Jan. 1, 2019. At 33, she is one of the youngest female CEOs in the railroad industry.

Banks previously served as MDDE’s Assistant General Counsel, and more recently as Vice President and General Counsel. Prior to joining MDDE, she spent several years at Bekman, Marder & Adkins, LLC, a Baltimore-based trial law firm. She has also worked for Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot, and the Hon. Albert J. Matricciani, Jr. of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.

Banks, born in Stuttgart, Germany, was raised in Salisbury, Md., where she graduated from James M. Bennett High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland College Park, and a law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Law Center of Maryland.

MDDE, with a network of approximately 120 miles, and has served freight customers on the Delmarva Peninsula for more than 40 years.
