Anacostia Rail Holdings (ARH) has been honored with the Corporate Distinguished Service Award of the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA), presented at the association’s Fall 2019 meeting in St. Louis.

The award recognizes NDTA corporate members who have provided outstanding support for the association’s goals and programs, which include exhibitions, conferences, symposia and industry workshops.

ARH, which operates six freight railroads across the U.S., has established a significant profile in military logistics through its subsidiary Louisville & Indiana Railroad (LIRC), which provides rail service to Camp Atterbury in south-central Indiana via a new rail facility at nearby Edinburgh.

LIRC inaugurated service to Camp Atterbury in 2017 with a National Guard training mission that simulated combat operations and involved approximately 309 railcars, 1,207 pieces of equipment, and 6,000 soldiers.

“This is a great forum for military and private sectors to gather around the same table and find ways to make shipping by rail easier,” said ARH Senior Director of Business Development Scott Lurkins. “ARH is committed to our support of NDTA and working closely with our railroad partners and military leaders to further develop our military’s use of rail transportation.”
