Thales will supply 82 SelTrac™ Vehicle On-Board Controllers (VOBCs) as part of TransLink’s SkyTrain fleet expansion in Vancouver.

VOBCs will be installed on 41 new automated rapid transit trains to increase capacity on the Expo and Millennium lines, which are already equipped with the Thales SelTrac™ CBTC (communications-based train control) system. They will control propulsion, braking, direction of travel and door operations, and enforce speed limits and report identified faults, according to Thales.

Thales is also supplying VOBCs as part of the Toronto Transit Commission’s new Finch West expansion project.

“Thales is proud to provide Vancouver residents with state-of-the-art technology that improves their journeys, getting them to their destinations safely and reliably,” Thales Canada President and CEO Mark Halinaty said.

TransLink ordered 205 new SkyTrain cars from Bombardier Transportation in December.
