TekTracking LLC recently announced the addition of another installation of the world’s first Safety Light Monitor (SLM) at a Canadian Class I.

The TekTracking SLM is “a patent-pending sensor platform used to measure and verify the operation of safety lights used in grade crossings, wayside signals and similar safety critical lighting applications. The latest version of the SLM is easily mounted to the top of the sunshield on a safety critical light and features a new more compact design utilizing DC power.”

The SLM aims to address critical field-testing requirements for railroad grade crossings by enabling continuous monitoring of all crossing aspects, including: signal light luminosity, signal light positioning, ensuring warning bells activate, measuring for excess vibration of signal lights and determining that down track obstructions do not block view of signal lights.

Data captured by each SLM are communicated over a private data radio network to TekTracking’s associated Edge Image Processor (EIP). The EIP is “the master network controller for up to 64 SLM’s and performs image analysis on captured images.”

TekTracking is an asset management technology provider servicing passenger and freight rail operators throughout North America.
