John J. Spellman, President, Rio Grande Pacific Technology (RIOTECH)

Rio Grande Pacific Corp. has appointed John J. Spellman President of its Rio Grande Pacific Technology (RIOTECH) subsidiary.

Spellman joined Rio Grande in 2018 when RIOTECH acquired Innovative Solutions In Signaling, LLC, where he served as Vice President. RIOTECH creates signal engineering design and technology software solutions for transit agencies and freight railroads across the United States.

With more than 20 years of rail industry experience, Spellman is a professional engineer, who has been involved in the planning, design and construction of commuter, light rail and freight rail lines. His expertise encompasses consulting, program management and signaling/train control, both nationally and internationally.

Spellman’s notable project work includes lead engineer roles for the Los Angeles Metro Gold Line (L.A. to Pasadena, Calif.); United Kingdom’s Cromer Resignaling Project; Denton County (Tex.) Transportation Authority commuter rail; Port of Los Angeles Berth 200; Valley Metro Mesa Extension (Phoenix, Ariz.); and the Louisville & Indiana Railroad/CSX upgrade.
