AECOM has appointed Jawad Shah Director of Signals and Communications in its Canadian Rail practice, a new position. He will serve as a new member of AECOM’s Americas Market Sector practice, working from the Mississauga, Ontario office.

Shah received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Windsor, Ontario, and an executive MBA in environmental economics from Athabasca University in Alberta, Canada. His career spans 29 years, beginning in the automotive industry as a plant engineer in Woodbridge, Ontario, where he worked on robotics that assist in the installation of motors, hydraulics and conveyors in automotive manufacturing.

Shah then moved to the IT/Telecom industry, where he worked for Nortel and later as a consultant to Saudi Telecom in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. While there, he developed new products and services for wireless and fixed-line technologies in the consumer, government and enterprise market segments.

Shah returned to Canada in 2014 as Director of Program Management in the Canadian Pacific Railway Signals and Communications department.

“Jawad’s skills are going to help us grow our Rail Signal and Communications business, and will build upon our existing team strengths through the regions of Mississauga and Calgary,” said AECOM Vice President Transit and Rail John Warren. “He’ll be tasked with increasing existing and new client growth. In this new position, we will be looking for Jawad to help us cross-sell and develop new business opportunities our services as we expand our reach in this market.”

“The rail industry is a fascinating sector, and while there’s no secret formula to growing business, I believe it makes sense to build trust and relationships in a way that makes customers feel assured their requirements will be delivered according to industry best practices and established standards,” said Shah, who holds certifications as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and Change Management Professional and possesses a Six Sigma Green Belt.
