The November 2022 issue of Railway Age is now available digitally, showcasing our Women in Rail honorees.

Railway Age’s sixth-annual Women in Rail program recognizes 23 women, who excel at leadership, serving the community and contributing to the industry. These strong women—plus five earning Honorable Mention—were selected from more than 100 applicants working in the North American freight, passenger and supply sectors.

“The honorees deserve not just our recognition with an award, but also our thanks for making the industry more accessible to a broader range of talents and perspectives,” said KellyAnne Gallagher, CEO of the Commuter Rail Coalition, who served as a program judge with Barbara Wilson, former RailUSA LLC President and CEO, with input from Railway Age staff.

“The 2022 honorees’ propensity for going above what is required makes their contributions even more important in these challenging times,” Wilson said.

Inside the November 2022 issue, you’ll also find feature stories on:

• Light Rail: Past, Present, Future — LRT growth continues, at restricted speed, reports Contributing Editor David Peter Alan.

• Digitizing Drainage — High-production machines and attachments, as well as computerized inspection vehicles, are built by (and sometimes operated under) multiple suppliers to help dump, spread, tamp, profile and clean ballast, helping to keep track in its place, writes Senior Editor Carolina Worrell.

• Railway Age’s Next-Gen Train Control Conference: Tech Convergence — Transit or freight? As technology progresses, differences will go away, according to Contributing Editor Ron Lindsey.

• Guideway, Bearing and Beam: The Essential Roles of Rail — In the eleventh edition of “Timeout for Tech with Gary T. Fry, Ph.D., P.E.,” Fry focuses on steel rail.

• MxV Rail R&D — MxV Rail Scientist Matthew Witte covers locomotive undercarriage thermal inspection systems.

Plus, Railway Age Financial Editor David Nahass discusses the potential for a clear supply chain pathway, but tells readers, “Don’t hold your breath.”
