TekTracking LLC in 2022 expanded use of its Commander Terminal Automation (CTA) system to two additional rail yards at a Class I customer in Wisconsin, in Green Bay and Fond Du Lac. The company received yet another order from this railroad for a different Wisconsin-based yard in January 2023, with planned cutover this spring.

“These additional Commander installations will continue to help this Class I leverage a modern control and communications platform specifically designed to greatly reduce support costs associated with legacy radio control technology suppliers,” the TekTracking said.

“TekTracking is excited to continue to support the railroads’ desire to upgrade their yard control architecture. We look forward to a continued roll-out of our next generation hardware and software solutions to maximize switching capabilities and increase throughput – while keeping maintenance and repair costs minimal for the railroad,” noted Gregory Fogarty, TekTracking CEO.

TekTracking said CTA “was developed to leverage modern, off-the-shelf communication and control products to provide a 100% ethernet-based wireless control system. CTA replaces only the legacy control and communication components found in all yard automation systems. It retains the existing power switch machines and OS circuits, which makes modernizing yard automation relatively inexpensive. The CTA system is simple to set up and includes sophisticated software to assist in network maintenance and troubleshooting. Replacement components are open-source and readily available. This allows the system to be easily supported by trained railroad personnel, eliminating the need for constant reliance on the system provider.”
