Kansas City Southern (KCS) has signed on with Houston, Tex.-based Commtrex to help connect shippers with its more than 100 transload facilities in the United States and Mexico.

The Commtrex platform allows shippers to search for transload facilities by location, commodities handled, services provided and other parameters, according to the firm and KCS, which offers a transload network in 19 U.S. and Mexican states, handling food and agricultural commodities, bulk materials, chemicals, paper and forest products, steel, and other metals. Nearly one-third of Commtrex’s 2,300 members are said to be rail-served shippers.

The partnership will “support transload volume growth in the U.S. and Mexico,” KCS Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Mike Naatz said. “This will help customers identify transload locations in competitive markets and secure shipping locations in Mexico—one of the fastest emerging logistics markets today.”

“The ability to easily connect shippers with transload facilities at origin and destination to help them develop a rail shipping plan, will facilitate greater conversion of truckload freight to rail,” Commtrex CEO Martin Lew said.

In related news, CN selected Commtrex services in September 2020. Additionally, KCS recently partnered with Savage, a Utah-based global infrastructure and supply chain services company, to build a multi-commodity railport for transloading and storage in Mossville, La.
