Duos will install for Amtrak two Railcar Inspection Portals (rip®) in Secaucus, N.J.

Duos Technologies Group will provide Amtrak with two automated railcar inspection portals under an approximately $9 million contract, with installation expected to begin later this year.

Duos CEO Charles “Chuck” Ferry made the announcement during the company’s fourth-quarter and full-year 2021 earnings call on March 30. He reported that Duos received confirmation of the award with a Master Services Agreement (MSA) for “thermal and vision scanner solutions” from Amtrak. The MSA, he said, was in conjunction with an “executor award to include issuance of a full notice to proceed to perform the services.”

The two Railcar Inspection Portal (rip®) systems—to be designed and built meeting certain Amtrak requirements for high speed passenger rail applications—will be installed in Secaucus, N.J. They are slated to be in place in first-half 2023. Under a separate contract, Duos will maintain the portals for $850,000 annually on a recurring basis.

In related developments, Duos reported in December 2021 that CSX will add to its network a third rip® by the end of second-quarter 2022.
