The North County Transit District (NCTD) announced Thursday, May 16, its SPRINTER diesel light rail transit (DLRT) service would resume operations at 4:33 a.m. Pacific Time Saturday, May 18, restoring rail service to northern San Diego County, Calif., that has been suspended for two months.

NCTD’s press briefing Thursday included an invitation for media, issued the previous day, to ride and photograph SPRINTER on a demonstration run.

SPRINTER service was disrputed due to unanticipated wear on the trains' brake rotors. NCTD has not yet explained the cause for the wear, which could cost the agency up to $3 million.

The agency substituted bus service during the service disruption.
