RATP Dev North America and McDonald Transit Associates, its North American subsidiary, have appointed veteran airline industry executive Mike Anderson as Vice President of Safety and Security. Based in Fort Worth, Tex., he will be leading all of RATP Dev North America’s rail and bus safety and security initiatives.

Anderson will be responsible for directing the safety and security protocols for all of RATP Dev North America’s operations, “continuing to evolve our safety and security programs,” the company said. “Additionally, he will be exploring new safety and security protocols to help with the implementation of innovative, new technologies that are expected to enter the public transit industry in the near future.”

Anderson comes to RATP Dev with extensive experience in the airline industry and aviation safety. He began his career at Mesaba Airlines (Minnesota), a regional carrier, as a line pilot. He then spent several years as Vice President Operations at two regionals, Yute Air Alaska and Harbor Airlines (Seattle). Returning to Mesaba, he was instrumental in the design and implementation of the carrier’s safety and security program. At Spirit Airlines, a national carrier, he was appointed Director of Safety and promoted to Senior Director of Safety. Prior to joining RATP Dev, Anderson was Vice President of Operations at Ameriflight LLC, a cargo airline based in Fort Worth.

“Mike brings years of safety and security management experience from the airline industry, and we are excited to introduce his expertise into the world of public transit,” said Blaine Rigler President of McDonald Transit and Vice President of Bus Services, RATP Dev North America. “He is a successful leader with a strong background in technology and operations. Mike will use his extensive experience in designing, developing, and implementing Safety Management Systems (SMS) in the rail and bus industries that we proudly serve. Mike is uniquely suited to ensure RATP Dev continues to remain focused on keeping our riders, employees and the general public safe and secure as the transportation systems and technologies evolve.”

“I am honored to be joining RATP Dev and to help continue their long history of operational excellence,” said Anderson. “After working with the airlines for most of my career, I am truly excited to experience the overall transit industry, and to help guide the company during this age of innovation. RATP Dev understands the future of public transit, and will set the standards of the industry when it comes to safety and security.”
