Neuilly-sur-Seine, France-based Thales Group said Monday it has been awarded a contract by IHI Corp. to resignal and upgrade the automated people mover (APM) located within Hong Kong international airport.

Thales said it will supply its radio-based SelTrac communications-based train control (CBTC) system for the existing lines and for a planned extension to the Midfield Concourse, which will service a third runway. The CBTC technology will also be applied to both existing and new trains circulating on the line. The project completion is scheduled for 2014.

“IHI is confident that in our partnership with Thales, we can count on an excellent delivery of the project to the full satisfaction of our customer at the Hong Kong airport,” said Tsutomu Hoshii, general manager of the IHI Transportation System Project Division.
