Siemens Transportation Systems has delivered the first two of nine light rail transit cars to Hampton Roads Transit, as the agency prepares to launch “The Tide” light rail service along its 7.4-mile starter line in Norfolk, Va., roughly one year from now.

Each car holds seating for 63 and has a full-load capacity of 215.

"This is just a cool car all the way around," said HRT President Michael Townes. "There's a driver's cab at both ends, there's bike racks. There's an automated passenger counting system so we can keep track of ridership. There are security cameras all over. It can go 55 mph on this dedicated track."
