PB will represent the city in guaranteeing quality assurance during construction, which some hope could begin later this month. M1's completion currently is slated for the fall of 2015.
The Woodward Avenue Streetcar Project, a private-public partnership (PPP) effort, is being funded by numerous private-sector interests, including the Kresge Foundation, the Penske Corp., and Quicken Loans, among others. Also involved is the Detroit Development Authority, the city of Detroit, Michigan's Department of Transportation, and the Federal Transit Administration, which has advanced a grant of $25 million.
M1 Chief Operating Officer Paul Childs and Director of Governmental and Community Affairs Sommer Woods previously has noted construction will occur in two segments.
