The $40 million facility will aid transfers between NJT's Atlantic City passenger rail line and the corporation's RiverLINE diesel light rail transit (DLRT) line in Pennsauken, N.J., which sits along the Delaware River east of Philadelphia. NJT buses also will serve the station.
The station has a 200-foot platform with a 60-foot canopy along the RiverLINE, with two 300-foot-long, high-level platforms above those platforms on the elevated Atlantic City Line (as shown in the photo above taken earlier this year). Stairs and elevators provide transfer capacity.
Though NJT officials reportedly hope the transfer station will boost ridership on both lines, particularly the Atlantic City Line, the difference in service frequency could pose initial problems. RiverLINE service is far more frequent, making transfers from the Atlantic City Line to the RiverLINE appealing but offering far less transfer incentive in the opposite direction.
