San Francisco-based Webcor Builders has been awarded a $48.7 million design-build contract for the Gold Line light rail transit extension project, extending LRT from Sierra Madre Villa (Pasadena), Calif., to Azusa, northeast of Los Angeles.

The decision by the Gold Line Construction Authority reportedly is the last major contract to be let for the first phase, estimated to cost $1 billion. Webcor Builders, with offices in Los Angeles and Anaheim, will oversee construction of intermodal parking facilities and related items.

Local media report officials are seeking fund for the next phase of the project, the next phase, extending the Gold Line from Asusa to Montclair. The cost for that phase is estimated at $600 million.
