DART readies Orange Line test train DART

Dallas Area Rapid Transit Monday is running its first light rail transit test train on the five-mile extension of the Orange Line into Irving, Tex. The train will travel from Bachman Station to the Irving Convention Center.

DART plans to open the five-mile extension for revenue service July 30. An additional extension of the Orange Line to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is pegged for opening by the end of 2014.

"These initial tests will check train movements, the overhead electrical system, and vehicle clearances prior to the start of integrated testing and safety certification," DART said. "Because the train is still in test mode, it will stop frequently to conduct clearance measurements and other tests as needed."
