Bombardier touts Universal Design Award honor

Bombardier Transportation said Thursday the design of its Berlin FLEXITY model  has "received the Universal Design and Consumer Favourite Award 2012 in Hannover," Germany.

The prize was accepted by Berlin Transport Authority (BVG) Tram Director Klaus Dietrich Matschke, and by Bombardier Transportation Director Sales Germany, Light Rail Vehicles Siegfried Dross.

Bombardier said, "In an interdisciplinary process the FLEXITY Berlin design was specifically developed for the city's needs by the Berlin-based IFS Design agency, together with the manufacturer Bombsardier Transportation and BVG. All features of the vehicle, raning from the exterior and interior to the drivers' workspace, were overseen by the designers throughout the project's development.

"The cityscape of Berlin is recognized for its Bauhaus style, and so is this tram" (shown in the photo), Bombardier said. "The vehicle's design freatures clean and clear lines which reflect the corporate design of BVG."
