VIA Rail Canada said Wednesday it has initiated "a new electronic ticketing service enabling passengers to access their tickets and information anywhere and any time from their personal electronic device, allowing rail users to avoid any pre-boarding lines and travel stress-free.

Customers making ticket reservations on VIA's Quebec City-Montreal-Toronto-Windsor corridor will now receive an e-boarding pass via e-mail, the company said. With the pass, travelers will be e-mailed their boarding information with a bar code. Passengers simply present the barcode straight from their mobile device or a printed version to an employee at the boarding gate, along with government-issued photo ID.

For passengers, the e-boarding pass means one less pre-boarding step and a more comfortable travel experience. Once a ticket is purchased, VIA Rail automatically sends a purchase receipt and e-boarding pass in separate emails to the traveler.

More information on VIA's electronic ticketing services and routes is available at VIA's webstite,
