Ahead of the holiday travel season, Amtrak achieved record revenue in November, reaching $204.7 million in system-wide adjusted ticket revenue, the best month in the company’s history.

Thanksgiving continued to be the busiest week of the year, with a record 777,897 riders generating $61 million in gross ticket revenue.

“More customers are choosing Amtrak as it is simply the smarter way to travel. We look forward to providing the Amtrak experience to more customers over the December holidays,” said Amtrak Co-Chief Executive Wick Moorman.

The carrier expects December will be equally as popular. It is offering discounts of up to 25% on seven- and 14-day advance purchase saver fares.

Amtrak noted that it has spent nearly $17 million to refresh train interiors, including new seat cushions, carpeting, curtains and refreshed restrooms. It also permits customers to bring small cats and dogs on many trains coast-to-coast.
