Amtrak says it will not provide alternate transportation, and recommends passengers reserve space on trains that will operate prior to the corridor closing. Amtrak also said Greyhound Lines offers alternate bus service between New York and Boston.
Amtrak service on its Inland Route between New Haven and Springfield, Mass., will not be affected.
With the NEC segment closed, Amtrak will use barges to replace two existing 100-year-old bridges and replace them with new spans. The $22.1 million project was funded in part through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
