Amtrak on Monday announced Jason D. Molfetas is the company's new chief information officer (CIO), effective immediately. Molfetas will report directly to Amtrak President and CEO Joseph Boardman.

Molfetas' duties will include leading Amtrak's information technology (IT) team, and also developing and implementing world-class state-of-the-art systems to support customer service initiatives, enhance business operations, and improve financial performance, the company said.

"Jason has considerable expertise in the IT field and possesses the leadership skills needed to build the partnerships and the new technology systems to advance Amtrak into our bright future," said President Boardman.

"I am pleased to be joining Amtrak during an exciting period when it is poised to grow beyond the success it has experienced in the last several years," said Molfetas. "Amtrak is and must continue to be an innovative leader in the transportation industry, including on the technology front that is essential to meeting our business goals to exceed customer expectations, increase revenues, and be more efficient and cost effective across the enterprise."

Molfetas most recently served as senior vice president and CIO for Recall, an Australian-based global company involved in secure information management and logistics, digital media and data protection. In addition, he simultaneously held the position of general manager for its Brazilian operations.
