Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area's GO Transit said Friday it would offer headways of 30 minutes throughout weekdays, and add more weekend service, on its Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West routes. Current headways average every hour on both route, though rush-hour service is more fequent.

The formal announcement was made by Ontario Transportation Minister Glen Murray, who said the changes would occur beginning June 29.

The Lakeshore East route runs from Toronto Union Station to Oshawa, Ontario; it will add 18 more weekday trains. The Lakeshore West route links Union Station with Hamilton. Since 2009, summer weekend service has extended to Niagara Falls, Ontario, and that service also will resume June 29. GO Transit will add 19 weekday trains to and from Hamilton.
