Denver RTD taps AECOM for regional rail work

AECOM Technology announced Monday it has landed a final desgn contract to assist Denver's Regional Transportation District (RTD) in the first two segments of RTD North Metro Rail Line, a regional (commuter) operation.

The value of AECOM's contract was not disclosed.

AECOM will provide design optimization studies and final design for track, stations, affected roadways, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) elements, landscaping, permitting, drainage and utilities, park-and-rides, walls, eight bridges, and transit systems coordination, the Los Angeles-based company said.

The 18-mile North Metro Rail Line is part of RTD’s FasTracks 120-mile expansion program, of which light rail transit (LRT) has garnered more media attention. Construction is slated to begin in 2014 on the line, which will link Denver Union Station to Commerce City, Thornton, and Northglenn, Colo., terminating at 162nd Ave. in North Adams County.
