Bombardier wins new AirTrain contract

Bombardier Transportation announced Friday that it has signed a contract with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to provide operations and maintenance services for the AirTrain system at Newark Liberty International Airport for a further 10 years. The contract, which includes a capital asset improvement program, is valued at approximately $243 million and becomes effective Aug. 2.

When it opened in 1996, the fully automated monorail system operated 12 six-car BOMBARDIER INNOVIA Monorail 100 trains serving three airport terminals, three stations at remote parking lots, and a rental car center over a nearly two-mile, dual-lane guideway. The system was subsequently extended to Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, increasing its length to nearly three miles.
