Railway Age, the 157-year-old railway industry trade publication that began life as a printed weekly and now publishes online news and the daily Rail Group News e-newsletter in addition to its print and digital monthly magazine, has just reached the next step in its continuing evolution into the digital age of publishing with a new app for the Apple iPad and iPhone platforms.
The app is available from the Apple iTunes store, and is free of charge.

“With this easy-to-use, free app, iPhone and iPad users can take advantage of our up-to-the minute daily news feeds as well as our complete monthly issues,” said Simmons-Boardman Rail Group Publisher Jonathan Chalon. “With its added Newsstand functionality, if you’re running iOS5 or above and you have an active free subscription to Railway Age, you will automatically have all of your new editions pushed directly to your device through Newsstand.”

They can also download and save individual pages to access offline and when they are on the go. The Railway Age app features search functionality to find key words relating to recent content, a zoom function to enable clearer reading of selected articles, and social networking integration to keep business colleagues and social circles up to date with all the latest shared news from the Railway Age website. It also offers full access to all previous/archived editions.

“We selected the Apple iPhone and iPad platforms for the Railway Age app after extensive research that showed these devices are the most popular for business users,” Chalon noted. “We’re also very pleased that MTU, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of diesel engines, has signed on as a sponsor.”
