Railinc Wednesday announced that the implementation of the new Umler™ system has been postponed to accommodate further testing until Aug. 31, 2009. Implementation had been scheduled for July 25.

"Critical rail industry partners requested additional testing to ensure that their information systems will work seamlessly with the new Umler’s functionality," said Alan McDonald, director of Railinc's EMIS Project. “We want all industry partners to be ready for the new Umler system. The additional testing simply ensures that everyone can recognize quickly the full value of the system with few difficulties.”

Railinc said Umler file maintainers and Umler system users are encouraged to review their readiness efforts and to take advantage of the free training opportunities offered on the Railinc website. This includes:

• “Ask the Umler Experts” webinars on Friday, July 24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21 (free, but registration required)

• On-demand, self-paced training modules

• Other learning resources such as Web demos, the Umler user guide and data specification manual, and an online “sandbox” where users can try the new system

• “Go-guide” available to help users get ready for the system
