Harsco Corp. has named Joseph P. Dougherty vice president of international sales for its worldwide Harsco Rail business group, effective June 1, 2009.

Dougherty joins Harsco from GE Transportation, where he has served as the strategic marketing manager for GE’s global locomotive business with responsibilities for market planning, analysis, and implementation in China, India, Russia and other emerging markets. He was a senior member of negotiation teams on multiple global locomotive proposals. Dougherty has also served as a global product line manager for GE, leading the product development lifecycle from inception to launch for fuel and emissions reduction technologies, for which he received GE's Management Award for Execution and Results.

Prior to GE, Dougherty served as a global project management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, undertaking long-term assignments in Europe, Japan, and South America and leading project teams within the firm's global energy practice.

Dougherty holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana.

Commenting on Dougherty’s appointment, Harsco Chairman and CEO Salvatore D. Fazzolari said, “Assembling a strong and solid global leadership team is a fundamental and essential prerequisite to building an enduring global enterprise. As we have demonstrated with our several recent announcements, our aim is simply to put the best and strongest management team on the field. This is consistent with our Harsco core value for People—the ‘A Team.’ We welcome Joe to this key seat and look forward to his strategic leadership contributions to Harsco's global growth.”
