ACI noted that it was part of the original three-partner, multi-national consortium, Siemens Transit Team, that contracted to design, build, operate and maintain the 11-mile subway system. The Boston-based company said it would now take sole control of Tren Urbano's operations and maintenance.
"This contract is a significant milestone for ACI and is a testament to the company's leadership and its record of service with Tren Urbano," said James F. O'Leary, a principal at ACI. "We have made significant strides with Tren Urbano over the past decade in terms of service delivery, customer service and safety. Our first-class team of railroad professionals will continue to provide safe, reliable service to Tren Urbano customers while accommodating additional growth in ridership."
He added that "under ACI's oversight, Tren Urbano has achieved one of the best safety records in the industry. Hiring and training 325 local residents to operate Tren Urbano, ACI has delivered a near-perfect on-time performance at over 99.5 percent."
