R.J. Corman Railpower Locomotives Wednesday said an RP14BD GenSet Switcher is destined for the Alabama State Port Authority's Terminal Railway (TASD).

To be delivered later this year, the RP14BD GenSet Switcher meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency locomotive emission regulations for 2012 under Tier 3, and it will repower the TASD's 1980 GM EMD MP-15 switching locomotive, R.J. Corman said.

Nicholasville, Ky.-based R.J. Corman Railpower Locomotives said it garnered the contract on March 1. Railpower's GenSet Switcher can reliably meet a critical freight turnover demand while conserving fuel and further reducing emissions during periods of operation at lower duty cycles, the company said.

The project is funded, in part, through a U.S. EPA grant to improve air quality by rapid deployment of clean diesel technologies through assistance funding authorized under the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) of 2010.
