GATX's TankTrainerTM, a 33,500-gallon tank car that provides guests with an opportunity to see a variety of fittings, coatings, valves, and configurations, has been in operation since 1993. In addition to providing training services at GATX's facilities, instructors accompany the TankTrainer on an average of 12-to-15 visits per year to various customer locations and to joint training programs with some of the major railroads.
Vice President and Group Executive-Rail North America Sales Robert A. Zmudka said, "GATX is committed to providing convenient railcar training to our customers and to emergency responders. We have offered the TankTrainer program for the past 20 years, and are proud to continue providing training opportunities with the new classroom railcar. This is one of the many ways we strive to make it easier for our customers to operate their railcar fleets."
Ross Gerard, director of Operations-Feed Additives for Evonik Corp. and a prior participant in GATX's TankTrainer program, said, "GATX is a major lessor of tank cars to Evonik worldwide, and the company holds a leading role in tank car design, safety, regulation and training. The TankTrainer has become very popular and is sought after by personnel at many Evonik facilities."
GATX notes it is a Responsible Care Partner in both the American Chemical Council's (ACC) program in the U.S. and the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada's Responsible Care Program. In 2010, GATX received the Responsible Care Partner of the Year Award from the ACC.
