STB: Michigan files to acquire NS line

The Surface Transportation Board says Michigan's Department of Transportation has filed an Acquisition Exemption, requesting permission for MichDOT to acquire two sections of NS rights-of-way totaling about 135 miles.

NS, MichDOT, Amtrak resolve slow-order spat

Michigan's Department of Transportation, Norfolk Southern Corp., and Amtrak reportedly have reached agreement on work designed to remove or reduce slow orders NS imposed last month on right-of-way between Kalamazoo, and Dearborn, Mich., the latter city just west of Detroit.

GWI traffic declines in March, 1Q

Greenwich, Conn.-based Genesee & Wyoming, Inc. said Friday its March 2012 traffic volume fell 13.6% compared with the same month a year ago. As well, GWI's first-quarter traffic volume declined, though less dramatically, by 9.2% measured against the comparable quarter in 2011.

Seattle streetcar lawsuit dismissed
