Senator proposes DOT "freight initiative" ...

U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) on Thursday asked Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to launch a "high-level and coordinated multimodal freight initiative at the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve the management of freight programs, investment, coordination, and planning." ...

In a welcome departure from past weeks, U.S. freight carload traffic for the week ending May 26, 2012 notched an increase, up 1.3% measured against the comparable week in 2011, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported Thursday.

New Jersey Transit’s newest locomotive made its first revenue service run May 30. The ALP-45DP (dual-power), described by NJT as a “hybrid” locomotive in that it operates under AC-catenary electric or diesel-electric power, is the first of its type in North America.

Bombardier, Bratislava conduct FLEXITY tests

Bombardier Transportation said Wednesday it and transport authority Dopravny podnik Bratislava (DPB) have begun test operations of a Bombardier's FLEXITY tram in Bratislava, Slovakia. Testing in the Slovakian capital city will continue through June 20.
