Senior Engineer, Track
$1722 - $2,497 per week ($ 89,565 - $129,870 estimated annual)

Excellent benefits are provided.  The agency’s Operations, Engineering and Construction Department is seeking a Senior Engineer, Track to be responsible for design reviews and engineering support of all construction and maintenance projects, engineering standards, maintenance oversight, and maintenance planning related to track.

In this important role, the Senior Engineer, Track will ensure agency compliance with all track regulatory requirements, perform regular track inspections, oversee the track maintenance program, and be responsible for ensuring compliance with all engineering standards and return-to-service requirements following all construction activities.  The successful candidate will develop annual and long-term maintenance plans, coordinate these plans with capital projects, monitor their productivity, and modify the plans as required, be responsible for updates of the track related engineering standards, and design review of capital and maintenance projects for compliance, and the cost effectiveness of the design while meeting project goals, investigate and identify root causes of track issues, In addition, you must determine and present appropriate solutions, collaborate as part of a team with Rail Operations, Capital Projects, Construction Management and other Caltrain departments to achieve department goals, and provide technical input to the Planning Department to develop project scopes. 

You will also coordinate with other agencies, such as California Public Utilities Commission plus the Federal Railroad Administration, for track related issues plus ride trains regularly to adjust maintenance requirements, provide on-call, 24/7 construction and maintenance support, perform all job duties and responsibilities while promoting safety awareness.

Qualified candidates should have sufficient education, training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to, Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, plus sufficient full-time progressively responsible professional experience in heavy rail track, or a combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  Must have strong interpersonal skills, including strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Must be an active listener, be able to respond to service any operational needs on and around the active railroad 24/7 and in a variety of weather and road conditions.  Also must possess a valid California driver license with a safe driving record.
