Coupling System, and Truck Castings Committee Manager, Technical Standards Department

TTCI is a world-class transportation research and testing organization, providing emerging technology solutions for the railway industry throughout North America and the world.  Headquartered in Pueblo, Colorado, TTCI manages extensive track facilities, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, and a highly talented engineering and support staff for standards, research and testing needs.

TTCI is seeking to immediately fill a Metallurgist Position specializing in implementation and standardization of metallurgical requirements for the North American Railroad Industry.  The successful candidate will:

·       Have a thorough understanding of the physical metallurgy of carbon and low alloy steel.

·       Have a practical understanding of foundry processes, preferably steel foundry processes.

·       Have knowledge of foundry defects and how they originate

·       Have familiarity with American Welding Society qualification processes for welders and welding procedures.

·       Have test engineering experience.

·       Have experience in conducting failure analysis and has developed a good understanding of how components fail.

·       Have familiarity with non-destructive testing methods including magnetic particle, dye penetrant, and others.

·       Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and have strong customer relations skills. 

·       Have ability to travel on business 6-12 times per year, including international travel.  Ability to walk in an industrial and/or railroad environment, including uneven surfaces, such as foundries, is also required.

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. degree in a technical discipline, supplemented with at least 5 years day-to-day experience with railroad rolling stock.  The successful candidate must:

·       Have ability to facilitate cooperation among various industry representatives and technical groups to promote Rule and Standards development.

·       Demonstrate familiarity with the Field Manual of AAR Interchange Rules and the Manual of Standards and Recommended Practices

 ·      Have experience in conducting failure analysis and has developed a good understanding of how components fail.

 ·      Have familiarity with non-destructive testing methods including magnetic particle, dye penetrant, and others.

 ·      Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and have strong customer relations skills. 

 ·      Demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-stress work environment,

 ·      Have intermediate skill level in the following computer software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.

 ·      Have ability to travel on business 6-12 times per year, including international travel. Ability to walk in an industrial and/or railroad environment, including uneven surfaces, such as foundries, is also required.

Preferred QualificationsIn addition to the above minimum qualifications, the preferred candidate will have experience/training in the following areas:

 ·   10 years related experience with railroad rolling stock.

 ·   Thorough understanding of the physical metallurgy of carbon and low alloy steel.

 ·   Practical understanding of foundry processes, preferably steel foundry processes.

 ·    Knowledge of foundry defects and how they originate

 ·    Familiarity with American Welding Society qualification processes for welders and welding procedures.

 ·    Test engineering in the railroad environment.

 ·    Detailed knowledge of current AAR Field and Office manual, and castings standards

 ·    Advanced skill level in the following computer software:  MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and project management.
