MTA NYC Transit (NYCT) serves more than 5 million subway customers and 2.5 million bus customers on an average weekday. Its 48,000 employees provide mass transit and paratransit service throughout the five boroughs of New York City, including operating almost 6,400 subway cars at 472 stations.

The NYC Transit Department of Subways Division of Maintenance of Way, is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for the 8,700 employees who comprise the workforce. It operates 6,400 subway cars, which are maintained at 14 facilities across the city. The signals unit is responsible for maintaining 13,000 signals and 1,600 switches throughout 665 miles of Track, to provide 24 hour service. The division of signals plans, manages, tests, inspects, repairs and renews signals, train detection circuits, automatic train stops, switch and lock movements, interlocking plants, electric and compressed air power networks, and all allied equipment to provide safe and reliable signal train control systems for the N.Y.C. Transit Authority and the public.

The Superintendent, Signals, will be responsible for any or all of the following functions that include accountability for planning, directing and coordinating the operation and oversight of a Signals unit: round-the-clock inspection, maintenance, repair, rehabilitation and testing of rapid transit signal train control systems to ensure safe and reliable rapid transit operations; supervising the material acquisition and distribution function for a Signals unit, as well as, on-site management of emergency response by Signals maintenance and repair personnel. This position may also be responsible for material forecasting, acquisition, distribution and fabrication of signal components, as well as, assisting senior management in strategic planning, policy and productivity review. Additionally, the Superintendent, Signals will develop new initiatives for maintenance practices, capital construction projects, engineering projects and new technology initiatives. Project management responsibilities include: overseeing and documenting all aspects of projects, in coordination with other departments and external contractors. Manage changes to project scope, project schedules and project costs, measure project performance using appropriate information technology applications, systems and established processes, as well as communicate project scope, schedule, and budget with upper managers and contractors.

The successful candidate will possess strong project and risk management skills, and strong knowledge of rapid transit train control systems or railroad operations, rapid transit equipment, testing, inspection, repair, reconstruction, installation and rehabilitation. In addition, strong knowledge of information technology applications, systems and processes is required.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Five (5) years of full-time signal-related experience; of which two (2) years must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity; OR a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
