TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Superintendent Communications in Menlo Park, CA. The Superintendent Communications plays a critical role with respect to on-time performance and safety. This position is responsible for leading the Communications Maintenance and/or Capital Support division. The successful candidate will possess the ability to create a vision and strategy for the future and inspire others to follow this vision. He/She will also be able to show passion for the vision and build enthusiasm, optimism, and ownership. The work is performed primarily outdoors with a portion admin related.

Duties & Responsibilities:
· Manage inspections, maintenance, and repair of the company’s communications infrastructure
· Manage material acquisition, inventory, and production costs
· Coordinate engineering activities with transportation operations
· Supervise work crews
· Execute action plans to achieve quality business objectives
· Coordinate and plan daily activities with respective functional areas
· Monitor work force levels to ensure all jobs are covered, including day, night, weekend, vacation, and holidays
· Create and implement processes including the monitoring and follow up on those processes with the goal of making the system function at a higher quality level
· Knowledge in railroad signal/communication practices
· Knowledge and qualified on GCOR/MOWOTS and physical characteristics of the property
· Ability to troubleshoot any rail signal/communication problem and provide advice on how to repair the same
· Ability to address any safety-related issue to verify a safe work environment
· Ability to make accurate cost-efficiency evaluations of work situations
· Ability to install, modify, upgrade, repair and test any signal/communication equipment
· Ability to assess the need for and provide an accurate accounting for any material ordered for work
· Ability to review and verify the legitimacy of all labor and material cost documents
· Ability to create detailed technical records of proposed and completed work
· Ability to implement a proactive maintenance program
· Ability to read, understand and direct work based on signal plans
· Ability to develop and mentor the team with the use of succession planning
· Ability to create and manage work orders.
· Communications Maintenance, Tests and Inspections
· Compliance with the PCJPB Test & Maintenance Manual for Railroad Communications
· Audit to ensure proper maintenance is being done on appliances
· Required reports of tests and inspections are completed and inputted on time
· Manage ordering of maintenance tools, parts and repairs
· Investigate signal failures
· Train rides
· Service bulletin completion
· FRA inspections (State & CPUC)
· Work a minimum of 50 hours per week
· Work varied shifts, holidays, nights and weekends
· Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions

· High School or equivalent
· Valid Driver’s License
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering
· Three (3) or more years’ experience supervising 5 or more employees

· Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull loads in accordance with all applicable safety rules and regulations.
· Oversight of contracts for construction and/or maintenance, reading and understanding prints and technical specifications, rules and regulations, inspecting signal and communications associated with railroad maintenance, and review of track safety and quality assurance; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
· Pass pre-employment background check
· Pass pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen
· Pass a motor vehicle report review and be able to meet Herzog’s driving policy (no major driving violations in the previous 3 years)
· Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
