Project Engineer – Railroad Design & Construction

Industrial Railways Company – Benicia, California

Industrial Railways Company was founded in 1956 to provide railroad track construction, maintenance and inspection services for rail-served industrial consumers, shippers, ports, manufacturers and similar industries. We offer design/build services to our clients focusing exclusively on heavy freight railway infrastructure projects.

We are currently seeking a civil rail engineer to be responsible for the preparation of track alignment designs for heavy freight rail projects along with related grading, storm water and utility design features. Projects may vary from large long term to multiple small assignments.


· Prepare design and submittal documents for track work, alignments, specifications, and details;
· Assist in preparation of proposals and contracts;
· Satisfy client requirements and expectations;
· Provide quality review of work performed;
· Perform contract administration support, tracking, and document control;
· Assist in preparing and managing reports, budgets and schedules;
· Communicate with subs and suppliers and report findings to project staff;
· Assist in pricing and processing changes or proposed changes;
· Assure compliance with contracts, including quality standards and specifications;
· Obtain and submit drawings, guarantees, warranties, and required operating instructions;
· Ensure plans and specifications are issued and jobsite plans are current;
· Assist with RFIs and contract documents Assist with final inspections, punch lists, and project closeout;
· Perform other duties assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

· Experience in plan preparation with advanced knowledge of Civil 3D;
· Experience working with surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors and assemblies;
· Experience working on rail/highway/industrial plans;
· A positive attitude with a strong desire to collaborate, learn and to teach others;
· Good organizational skills with good note taking and task tracking capabilities;
· A desire to take ownership of various tasks and engage in collaborative discussion on ways to continually improve our product;
· Ability to work with limited supervision;
· Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (or similar level);
· Licensed as a California PE, (Required);
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in track design with an emphasis on railway, commuter, or transit projects;

Salary Range:

· Annual Salary $90,000 - $120,000 DOE paid via weekly payroll (Payday once a week);
