Position Objective
Provide various engineering services to support the safe and reliable operation of the Metro-North Railroad rolling stock fleet. Engineering services include: Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, and Materials Engineering, advanced analytic services for Reliability Centered Maintenance, Reliability Availability and Maintainability, and• Enterprise Asset Management, Quality functions, Technical Support, and Maintenance Planning.

Effectively contribute to the tactical and strategic planning/forecasting, and implementation plans including material requirements, labor resource planning, shop loading, and vehicle availability for the maintenance, testing, and repair activities for the Metro-North Railroad rolling stock fleet to ensure ultimate reliability of Metro-North Railroad rolling stock fleet of EMU, Diesel equipment and Coaches.
Effectively contribute to M of E EAM/RCM (Support) team efforts to identify and document all current work packages, EMl's, MOD's, and remanufacturing specifications (Work Scope).
Effectively contribute to the Analytics team's functions of M of E EAM/RCM (Support) to proactively use all data available to discover and identify barriers to safe operations. reliable service, comfortable customer experience, and efficiency of the mission to transport passengers; proactively exploit trends in failures and service disruptions, design fix/solution to mitigate or prevent failures in the future.
Effectively contribute to the functions of all M of E departments, other Metro-North Railroad departments, other MTA agencies to support the rolling stock fleet reliability and operations efficiency.
Effectively contribute to the function of identifying, creating, testing, implementing, training, and monitoring of Service Disruption Review Protocols (SDRP), used to effectively mitigate/resolve service disruptions related to rolling stock.
Effectively contribute to the roles and responsibilities of M of E EAM/RCM (Support) Technical Services, to highly technical reference services to Transportation, Mechanical Operations, and all other M of E departments.
Effectively contribute to the roles and responsibilities of the Quality Assurance team by: inspecting and auditing of processes and material, assessing/designing quality systems and procedures, and supporting the warranty reclamation process in support of Metro-North Railroad financial recoveries for same.
Effectively contribute to the M of E EAM/RCM (Support) efforts to support the M of E facilities, systems, and equipment, including procurement and maintenance of same.

Required Qualifications
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of employees. Inter-departmental coordination skills to foster teamwork.
Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills.
Advanced working knowledge of computer based maintenance tracking systems and electronic maintenance records.
Knowledge of heavy industry maintenance practices and strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills.
Proficiency in writing and implementing business systems and specifications. Proficient working with relational databases, SQL and query based reporting tools. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Access) and/or comparable PC applications.
General knowledge of electric, push-pull, and diesel rolling stock components and systems.
Experience in configuring replacement components and system assemblies for fit, form and function applications.
Technical, analytical and problem solving skills of electromechanical and software driven systems. Working knowledge of micro-processor control diagnostic systems and car borne software.
Familiarity with rail and transit transportation industry regulations, standards as well as other industry related engineering standards.
Strong technical writing skills for development of correspondence, reports, procedures and technical Instructions.
Knowledge in the review and development of drawings, specifications and technical reports. Ability to obtain and maintain a QMP status.
Analytical skills relative to the failure modes and statistical tools related to same.
Ability to perform all aspects of project management duties related to field engineering endeavors. Ability to mentor field level technical support personnel.
Ability to conduct and interpret quality audits, and perform various other quality assurance functions.
Ability to work various shifts and locations as assigned to support operations twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
Ability to be on call and respond to emergencies as required twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
Must possess a valid driver's license.

Required Education/Experience
Bachelor's in Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, and/or other related Engineering degree from an accredited university or college.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience with passenger rail rolling stock or related engineering experience (OR successful completion of the Metro-North Railroad Associate Engineer Program).

Preferred Education/Experience
MS or MBA from an accredited university or college.

Other Information
This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicological testing.
As an employee of Metro-North Railroad you may be required to complete a New York State financial disclosure statement, if you earn more than $95,534.00 or if you hold a position designated as a policy maker.
