The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT), headquartered in Newington, CT, has an opportunity for a Transportation Public Transit Assistant Administrator. The DOT has an immediate need for a highly motivated candidate to assist the Transportation Public Transit Administrator in rail facilities safety, oversight, design, construction and maintenance services in this complex multi-modal transportation agency. Successful candidates must demonstrate a knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques to public transit rail design, construction, maintenance and operations; considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations pertaining to rail design, construction, maintenance and operations; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills. Primary responsibilities will include the intermodal design and construction unit supervising twenty-four (24) employees from design and construction groups; will oversee and support all the engineering and construction-related activities on the New Haven line, New Haven-Hartford-Springfield line, Shore Line East, Connecticut-owned rail freight lines and the rail freight infrastructure program; will be responsible for design and construction of major rail projects as well as the ongoing state of good repair and normal replacement projects; will oversee project management and engineering functions; will require coordination and oversight as required with various bureaus, outside agencies and railroad operators, the Federal Railroad Administration and Federal Transit Administration.

Minimum requirements: Nine (9) years' experience in rail design, construction, maintenance and operations or other transportation related large scale program or project. One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at the supervisory and/or managerial level. Substitutions allowed: College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree in a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
