Manager, Engineering, Track and Structures
$1,877 - $2,722 per week ($97,627 - $141,558 estimated annual)

The Transit District, which is in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, is the managing agency for the San Mateo County Transportation Authority. Currently, our Operations, Engineering & Construction Division is seeking a Manager, Engineering, Track and Structures.

The Manager, Engineering, Track and Structures is responsible for design review and engineering support of all construction and maintenance projects, ensuring conformity and compliance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements for track and railroad structures. The selected candidate will provide maintenance oversight, and maintenance planning for track and railroad structures and will also be responsible for planning, budgeting, and supervision of staff. In this key role, the Manager will act as Agency lead on matters related to track and structures, ensuring compliance with all return-to-service requirements following construction activities, supervising professional engineering and support staff, and evaluating performance of staff.  

We seek an outgoing, experienced team player who will plan, develop, and implement track and structure group’s work plan, budget, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, develop annual and long-term maintenance plans plus provide technical input to the Planning Department to develop project scopes. You will be responsible for updates of and compliance with the engineering standards and design review of capital and maintenance projects and for cost effectiveness of design within the parameters of project goals. This key role requires coordinating with other agencies, such as:  California Public Utilities Commission, the Federal Railroad Administration, Union Pacific Railroad, and other interested parties plus on-call, 24/7 construction/maintenance support.

To qualify for this position, the successful candidate must have sufficient education, training, and experience, including Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, plus sufficient full-time progressively responsible professional experience in heavy rail track. Strong interpersonal skills are required, including strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills. We seek an active listener who can focus on solutions and collaborate with key stakeholders and build consensus.  Must be able to respond to service and operational needs on and around the active railroad 24/7 and in a variety of weather and road conditions.  Must possess a valid California driver license with a safe driving record.
