CSX says the 89-acre intermodal rail terminal will connect the region with CSX's 21,000-mile rail networkthe region with CSX Transportation's (CSXT) 34,000 kilometer (21,000-mile) rail network in the U.S.
The US$100 million facility "will enable shippers in the region to capitalize on the economic and environmental benefits of intermodal rail, expand on the north-south trade opportunities offered by NAFTA, and connect to new markets," CSX says. The terminal is expected to open in 2015.
Among those attending the ceremony Monday will be Salaberry-de-Valleyfield Mayor Denis Lapointe and Wilby Whitt, president of CSX Intermodal Terminals. Andrew Parker, U.S. consul general, also is scheduled to attend.
