Fairport, N.Y.-based RailComm said Friday it has been chosen to provide its state-of-the-art Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) train control system for Emmett, Idaho-based Rio Grande Pacific Corp. (RGPC).

The DOC system will have functionality for Track Warrant Control (TWC) through web-enabled software-as-a-service (SaaS) delivery. RailComm SaaS provides a "pay-as-you-go" model by hosting the applications in the Cloud, thus eliminating capital equipment procurement constraints. The DOC® control application resides on servers within the RailComm-managed data center in Rochester, N.Y., so the requirement for local IT support at each railroad is greatly reduced.

Railroads can be remotely dispatched by the Rio Grande and Pacific wherever an Internet connection is available. Therefore, RailComm says, it is possible to relocate the dispatchers to alternative locations as required. Additionally, railroad management will be able to log in from the office, home, or even from a hotel and directly view dispatching activity and management reports.

Rio Grande Pacific Corp. is a short line and regional railroad holding company with operations in six states, including the New Orleans and Gulf Coast Railway Co., Idaho Northern & Pacific, and Nebraska Central Railroad.
