DAYTONA BEACH, FLA.: The 54th running of the Daytona 500 is scheduled to take place tonight (Monday Feb. 27), after heavy rains forced postponement of The Great American Race from yesterday.

Furniture Row Racing and associate sponsor CSX Transportation and Regan Smith, driver of the no. 78 Chevrolet Impala, are anxious to get started.

Smith is starting the race from a prime position — 6th, outside lane row 3 on the starting grid. His sleek black stock car, adorned with a bumper sticker proclaiming “I BRAKE FOR TRAINS: PLAY IT SAFE AROUND RAILROAD TRACKS,” is said to be performing extremely well. Smith has consistently been one of the fastest cars on the track during Speed Week at Daytona International Speedway.

During an interview in the NASCAR Fan Zone on Sunday, Smith talked about his experience on board a CSX locomotive at the railroad’s Moncrief Yard, Jacksonville, impressing upon the fans how massive a locomotive really is, and how important it is to obey grade crossing warning signals and exercise caution when walking near railroad tracks.

“We know Regan’s going to be a great spokesperson for CSX and our Play it Safe public safety campaign,” says Director-Community Affairs and Public Safety Cliff Stayton.

Tune in tonight on FOX at 7:00 p.m., when the green flag is scheduled to drop on the first-ever Daytona 500 under the lights. Watch for Regan Smith and the black no. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet with the safety-orange rear bumper sticker!
